Sun Damage & Children

Since children do not understand the dangers of UltraViolet Radiation they need protection. Children need special care as they spend more time outdoors than

adults and can burn more quickly as they have very little melanin (skin pigment) to protect them. Australian research indicates that 80% of lifetime sun exposure

occurs before age 18. Babies - even when in the shade - can burn very quickly.

Alarmingly, as few as 6 childhood sunburns significantly increases the risk of melanoma cancer later in life. Started early and followed consistently sun wise

behaviour will become a sound healthy habit- as routine as fastening seatbelts or brushing teeth!

- Make clothing your first line of protection. Choose clothing that offers good body coverage ie. Covers the arms and legs as well as the body.
- Closely woven and darker colored fabrics offer more protection from UVR than pastel colors.
- Wear a broad-brimmed hat or legionnaires cap, sunglasses with an EPF 10 rating or goggles when skiing.
- Seek shade whenever possible - the level of sun protection provided by a shade structure depends on the design and material used.
- Minimise time in the sun between 10am-3pm. This practice can dramatically reduce your UVR exposure.
- Apply sunscreen on clean, dry skin 20 minutes before going outside - do not rub in but leave a light film on the skin. Always choose a sunscreen that is water

resistant, broad spectrum and rates 30+. Reapply every two hours or after swimming or sweating.

LYCRA® FABRIC CARE INSTRUCTIONS
- Rinse in cool water after every use
- Hand wash with mild soap
- Do Not machine wash
- Do Not use chlorine as it will affect the color of the garment and rot the fibre
- Do Not leave rolled up when wet and leave rolled up in a towel.
- Do Not spin dry, soak, bleach, iron, dry clean, pack or store when wet.
- Be careful to remove all traces of sunscreen from your garment in the washing process.
- Remove all sand grains by rinsing your garment or carefully stretch dry fabric over thumbnail and sand will drop out.
- Drip dry in shade out of direct sunlight.
- Some fluorescent colours may fade more rapidly.
- Avoid rough surfaces such as concrete, rough wood, swimming pool surrounds as these may damage your swimsuit.

Although we use the best fabrics available to us for swimwear, harsh chemicals present in some suncare products, pools and ESPECIALLY HEATED SPAS will destroy

the elasticity and colour of your garment. We recommend you use an old swimsuit in spas and saunas.
